David and Ruth were both born in Victoria and married in 1993 after meeting in Geelong. They shared a long held dream to work with Australian Indigenous people.
During their time studying at Bible College of Victoria, David & Ruth sensed God directing them to train for Mission Aviation. David gained his Private Pilot Licence with MAF in 1996. They then relocated to Alice Springs where David worked as a flight programmer for MAF Central Australia and Ruth worked as a nurse at the local hospital.
They also took further opportunities to live and work in remote communities delivering Indigenous programs for several years in Western Australia and in the Torres Strait.
In 2010 the Curtis family returned to Victoria to allow David to complete the Diploma in Mission Aviation and then served with Bible Society Australia in Darwin from 2011. David’s role included flying the Bible Society aircraft to remote communities and Ruth managed the Scripture resource centre.
Bible Society Australia ceased flying operations in 2014 and David and Ruth determined that God was directing them to serve with MAF. David now works as a flight instructor at the MAF flight training centre in North Queensland and Ruth is currently studying to regain her enrolled nursing qualifications.
David and Ruth live in Cairns with their three children Jessica (16) Jared (14) and Nicole (12).
So because of God’s mercy, we have work to do. He has given it to us. And we don’t give up.
