From their teenage years James and Ruth had felt a strong call from God to commit their lives to missionary work. James spent a year in Papua New Guinea (PNG) with Christian Radio Missionary Fellowship (CRMF). Ruth trained as a Nurse and Midwife in preparation for future service.
After studying at Sydney Missionary and Bible College, James and Ruth were married and then went to PNG in 1989 to serve with CRMF (now MAF Technology Services) as the Electrician. Firstly training an apprentice to carry on the electrical work, James then took on the role of Manager for the mission. Ruth was involved in a variety of ministry roles throughout their 16 years there as well as raising their 3 children.
Moving to Brisbane in 2006 gave opportunities for senior school and higher education for the children and for Ruth to help care for her aging parents. James has worked in process control systems and Ruth in nursing, giving them new skills for the next chapter. Throughout this time they have maintained an active interest in missions and involvement with their local church.
As they return to serving the Lord cross-culturally James and Ruth are thankful their 3 adult children are supportive of this next season. They will be working with Mission Aviation Fellowship in the South Sudan programme where James will take up the position of Facilities Manager.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
